Kaftan is a full-length garment with elbow-length or long sleeves, worn chiefly in eastern Mediterranean countries. A westernized version of this garment consisting of a loose, usually brightly colored waist-length or ankle-length tunic. Kaftans are long gowns or robes sewn in a narrow v-neck fashion usually decorated with buttons, a toggle or a tie with elbow length sleeves and a flowing border because of which they are suited to many body shapes. Also called muumuus or house, these are liked by women who are not very thin.
